7-29-2014: Tree removal is scheduled to begin this week by Friday, August 1st. As a result of several factors, the River Roberts construction schedule has been modified. The general staging plan will remain the same, but a pre-stage to complete some of the stage one work will take place this year. Beginning August 11, 2014, River Road will be closed so crews can complete the majority of the soil stabilization work; this closure is expected to last until late November/early December. At that time, River Road will be reopened and the intersection will be open to traffic for the winter. Next spring, River Road will again be closed for the remainder of stage one work and stage two work. River Road and Roberts Road will both be closed for approximately 20 days in September 2015 to complete stage three work. Please click here to read more information. The River Road at Roberts Road intersection improvement project is located in the Village of Lake Barrington within Lake County. The interior lane of the roundabout will be 11 feet wide and the outer lane will be 18 feet. The interior circle will have mountable curb and gutter to allow truck movements to utilize the 10 foot truck apron to be installed on the interior. The interior landscaped island of the roundabout will be a 27 foot radial circle. A decorative retaining wall will be constructed along the north side of the roundabout.
The project extends approximately 1000 feet east and west along Roberts Road and an additional 800 feet south along River Road. A proposed path on the south side of Roberts Road will be constructed as part of this project. The path will begin at the property line of the Lake County Forest Preserve District in the southwest and extend to the intersection where it will cross to the north and to the east of the roundabout to provide connectivity to the Fox River Forest Preserve which is separated by Roberts Road. A six foot sidewalk will be constructed along the north edge of the roundabout to provide connectivity for the Twin Ponds subdivision located off of Oak Hills Road to the northeast. This sidewalk will continue to the east along Roberts Road and connect to Twin Ponds Road. All pedestrian accommodations will be in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
This project is led by the Lake County Division of Transportation with funding from the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) Program as administered by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).
Partnering agencies for the project also include the Lake County Forest Preserve District and the Village of Lake Barrington.
