12-16-2014: Crews continue to install the ground improvement columns along River Road and at the east end of the project. Once the columns are done, crews will begin working on building the embankment to hold the temporary pavement for River Road. Please use caution when driving through the construction zone. Expect heavy delays during the morning and afternoon rush. Possible daily lane closures outside the morning and afternoon rush on Roberts Road may be needed while trucks haul material.

The early/unexpected freezing temperatures in mid and late November caused multiple equipment breakdowns and slowed/delayed the production of the ground improvement columns; the upcoming holiday work schedule differs from the regular work schedule. As a result of these factors, we are looking to open River Road in mid/late January. We apologize for this inconvenience and will continue to work in rain and snow in order to open River Road as quickly as possible. We greatly thank you for your patience and understanding.
The River Road at Roberts Road intersection improvement project is located in the Village of Lake Barrington within Lake County. The interior lane of the roundabout will be 11 feet wide and the outer lane will be 18 feet. The interior circle will have mountable curb and gutter to allow truck movements to utilize the 10 foot truck apron to be installed on the interior. The interior landscaped island of the roundabout will be a 27 foot radial circle. A decorative retaining wall will be constructed along the north side of the roundabout.
The project extends approximately 1000 feet east and west along Roberts Road and an additional 800 feet south along River Road. A proposed path on the south side of Roberts Road will be constructed as part of this project. The path will begin at the property line of the Lake County Forest Preserve District in the southwest and extend to the intersection where it will cross to the north and to the east of the roundabout to provide connectivity to the Fox River Forest Preserve which is separated by Roberts Road. A six foot sidewalk will be constructed along the north edge of the roundabout to provide connectivity for the Twin Ponds subdivision located off of Oak Hills Road to the northeast. This sidewalk will continue to the east along Roberts Road and connect to Twin Ponds Road. All pedestrian accommodations will be in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
This project is led by the Lake County Division of Transportation with funding from the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) Program as administered by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).
Partnering agencies for the project also include the Lake County Forest Preserve District and the Village of Lake Barrington.
